A Brief  History of Improve Africa Systems

Our journey began in 2014 when Neo and Winnet, two passionate individuals working in healthcare quality improvement, met as colleagues.

It was a meeting that sparked an instant connection as if they had found a long-lost friend in each other. United by their shared enthusiasm for quality improvement, they soon realized that their discussions on the subject during lunch and tea breaks revealed a mutual obsession. Quality improvement wasn’t just a profession for them; it was a calling, a way of life that they believed everyone should embrace.

As they delved deeper into the realm of quality improvement, Neo and Winnet embarked on a journey filled with both triumphs and challenges. They experienced the exhilaration of witnessing tangible gains through their efforts, the frustration of facing setbacks and failures along the way, and the heartbreak of encountering resistance from those who didn’t share their vision. Yet, through it all, their passion remained unwavering, and they found solace in their shared pursuit of making a difference.

However, they also recognized that quality improvement could sometimes feel like a solitary endeavor, particularly in Africa where practitioners and implementation scientists often found themselves talking past each other instead of collaborating effectively. Determined to change this narrative, Neo and Winnet founded Improve Africa Systems.

At Improve Africa Systems, we’re on a mission to bring together passionate improvers and implementation scientists from across the continent. We believe that by fostering collaboration and creating a platform for knowledge sharing and exchange, we can accelerate the pace of improvement and make meaningful strides towards transforming Africa’s systems for the better.

Whether you’re a seasoned improvement practitioner, an aspiring enthusiast, or an implementation scientist looking to bridge the gap, Improve Africa Systems is your community. Join us as we geek out over quality improvement, support each other through the challenges, and ultimately, make our actions count.

Together, we can build a brighter future for Africa—one improvement at a time.
